Blogging cycles

Related entries in Arieanna & Ianiv, Professional Blogging

Ok, here is something I’ve noticed about the way I read and write now. When I first started blogging, there was that “catch up” period, so to speak. I felt like not only was I needing to understand what the heck blogging was and how it fit in culture, marketing and business, but I felt really behind in the news.

So, catch up period over. I think. Now, when I read through my feeds, I bookmark less. Is this a sign of being not interested in the news out there or being more selective? Are things just in a summer slow period? Perhaps. I also think it’s part of a knowledge cycle - the one I’ve passed is a blogging cycle. And certain topic cycles.

Now, I can read stuff and pick out what is new or has a different angle, and know it. Have an opinion. That’s great.

But it also makes my news reading a little more stale. Even at 262 feeds, if you can imagine it.

So, I think I need to reinsert some energy into my reading, and this will in turn grow back into my writing. How? By jumping into some new topics. I don’t know what yet. I need to do some more on cooking and baking (haven’t had much luck finding those blogs to feed me some interesting stuff), but I also want something new.

Any ideas?

Has anyone else experienced the same cyclical effect of being behind - getting caught up - then being in a lull?

Paul Chaney has just made the announcement that Bloggeropoly is now being officially launched. If you’re a professional blogger, or want to be, listen up to this news.

What is Bloggeropoly? The first, if not the only, blogger recruiting agency.

Bloggeropoly is here to match up bloggers with companies who have full-time or contract blogging jobs. No guess work. No need to go looking for your perfect match. It’s your traditional recruiting agency, but with all the knowledge and specialization needed for matching bloggers with jobs. Plus, there is a 90-day guarantee.

Disclosure: I helped Bloggeropoly get off the ground. Ianiv build templates and I’ll be populating a lot of the blog content. I’ll be blogging there regularly on recruiting specific to bloggers: how to get hired, being a professional blogger, and overall job tips such as resume advice and that kind of thing. I might even cross post some like content here.

When we hear of job opportunities we will try to match them up with bloggers. We may also post them to our site, minus the company and contact info.

Add Bloggeropoly to your feed and see what we’re all about.

The Qumana countdown has begun…

FINAL_Qumana_logoThe countdown for the release of QumanaLE 1.0 is in its last few hours. The Qumana countdown clock is sitting at just under 7 hours to public release. Our set of worldwide beta testers have already received a pre-release of the software. And, as you can imagine, we’ve been operating on lack of sleep for about a week now, and will probably have a couple more days of it while we work hard to support the release.
It’s not been really announced here, but I am the newest addition to the Qumana team. I started working on the team a couple of weeks ago. Official title as Senior Blog Marketing Specialist. Nice, hey? I’m really excited to be a part of Qumana, especially at this time. It’s been a hard week, I can say that. But really invigorating. My contract with Qumana and Qumana Services is one of the first to go under our company - Blogaholics Consulting. Great feeling to be moving along my chosen path. :)
Anyway, Tris & I have been Skyping so much that I start to feel odd not wearing my headset. We have a mutual To Do list going right now for the release. We’re still a little heave on the “still to do” side but the “done” is getting there. Of course, tomorrow is a whole other story.
We are really pleased with the release of QumanaLE 1.0 tomorrow with everything that is going to be around the corner over the next 3 months. It’s an exciting time for Qumana.
Tune in tomorrow for the release!
If you have any questions, send us an email or go visit the Qumana site!

Arieanna goes ProBlogger

Related entries in Arieanna & Ianiv, Business Blogging, Blogging news, Making Money with Blogs, Professional Blogging

I have taken the leap and have decided to turn ProBlogger.

What does this mean? That I will be officially working for myself as a professional blogger and consultant on a full-time basis. After much debate with myself, I decided to take the leap and see what I could make of the opportunities presented to me. I will be “officially” ProBlogger starting on Wednesday.

I’m really excited to be joining the force of professional bloggers along with others such as Darren Rowse and Tris Hussey. I also feel proud to be one of the first few women to take the leap into professional blogging.

So, here is a wrap up of some of what I’ll be doing. I’ll continue to write on all of our blogs, and maybe add a few more to the “Blogaholics Network.” I’m going to ramp up the services offered by our ‘official’ company name: Blogaholics Consulting. Our consulting site will continue to be Blogging Help. Some of the services that I’ll be offering include:

  • blog writing on pretty much any topic
  • blog setup
  • SEO with blogs
  • training sessions (blog intro, blogging basics, listening to the blogosphere)
  • public speaking
  • event blogging
  • media purchases for blogs (read below)

At the same time that I’ll be monetizing our own blogs, I will be helping other bloggers out there achieve high yield sponsorship. Putting my marketing hat on to ensure that both the advertisers and the bloggers get the optimal deal. Right now I’m working with Darren Rowse for sponsorship on his Digital Photography Blog. It’s been great so far.

Ok, if that list is not long enough, I’m also going to be working with Qumana and Qumana Services. The latter is a bit of a duplication of the above services, but I’ll have the chance to work more closely with Tris Hussey to really tag team the effort. I’ll be working with Qumana on a blogging/marketing type role. Tris & I came up with the lovely title of Senior Blog Marketing Specialist. Very cool. I’m really looking forward to contributing to Qumana.

For the next couple of weeks I’ll be blogging for the Collaborative Technology Conference - I’m running a series of interviews with Stowe on the speakers and moderators who will be at the conference. The list is just packed with really interesting people. All the interviews are cross-posted to the CTC Blog and to Get Real. Hopefully I’ll be able to event blog the conference as well.

This is my current list of blogs:

Our blogs:

Blogaholics

Blogging Help

Vancouver Coffee

Baking Low Fat

Cooking Made Simple (with Tris Hussey)

Microbrewblog (coming soon with Tris Hussey)

Blogs I write on (or am soon to start writing on):

Get Real

Wireless Jobs

DVD Skills

Qumana

Qumana Investor Blog

So, it’s a pretty exciting time. I am just ready to load up my plate with more stuff that I am seriously passionate about. Want to reach me? Email arieanna AT blogaholics DOT ca

Blogging Gigs

Related entries in Arieanna & Ianiv

As many of you might have already read on Tris’ blog, we’ve got some new blogging gigs. Thanks to Tris, we’ve been able to take on some really great blogs.

I’ll be writing on: WirelessJobs.com
Ianiv will be writing on SiliconValleyJobs.com
Tris will be writing on StartupJobs.com

Up to now, Tris has been writing on all three blogs. And doing a fabulous job. However, the owner of the blogs at Recruiting.com wants to make each blog a thought-leader, and part of the way to do that is to get a different writer for each blog. So, that’s the story. Tris tipped us off and we were excited to take it on.

As Tris notes, it’s a great way to “keep it in the family.” Ianiv & I tend to chat with Tris most days, so we share a lot of links and ideas. We should be able to create some good blog conversations this way too.

Ianiv & I will be using the Blogaholics and Blogging Help bylines, and Tris will be using his byline too “Tris Hussey is the Chief Blogging Officer for Qumana Software and Managing Director of Qumana Services. He can be reached at tris AT qumana DOT com or tris AT trishussey DOT com.”

Now, I was hoping to get the login info today, but no luck. Ianiv & I will be gone until Sunday afternoon - we’re off camping. Might be able to snap up a post if I’m lucky, but don’t count on it. Too bad, I’m just itching to go!

On another note, I’ll be continuing as a contributing writer on Get Real. Passed my Guest Blogger stage. Wohoo. Exciting day.

Can’t wait to get more of these gigs!

New blog: Baking Low Fat

Related entries in Arieanna & Ianiv, Blogging news, Making Money with Blogs

We’ve officially launched our 5th blog: Baking Low Fat.

I love to bake. Don’t know if it’s the ingredients, the process, or just the satisfaction of eating the goodies, but I love baking far more than cooking. However, for health reasons, we try to be really healthy in the kitchen. I’ve found it quite hard to accomidate my love for baked goods into a healthy lifestyle. Baking is not really a low-carb diet, but I’m not a low-carb kind of person. Happen to love my carbs.

Fortunately, I have come across a couple of hard-to-get cookbooks and constantly search the web for tons of recipes and tips. So, I am able to enjoy the yummy baked goods without all the fat. Luckily, there are some easy ways to take out the oil and butter without sacrificing the flavour.

So, this blog is to share what I’ve learned. And, bonus, it’s a Drupal blog. So, you can share your recipes and ideas too. Subscribe to the blog, and join the community of healthy bakers.

IIMA Blogging for Dollars Recap

Related entries in Arieanna & Ianiv, Marketing, Business Blogging, SEO, Blogging Basics

I spoke tonight at the IIMA on how blogging is emerging as the new tool for online marketing, and, well, for business in general. I am a bit of a fanatic for the power that a blog can bring to businesses large or small, so it was a great experience for me to be able to share some of my opinions and ideas. I met some really great people and got to explore some good new frontiers with my fellow panelists and with the attendees as well.

kris krug photography

I have to say that the commentary at the event was superior - I was very impressed with the caliber of responses and with how people responded to the usefulness of blogs. I am very excited by the number of people I saw leaving the series with aims to start their own blogs. Some wanted to communicate with customers, some to build their name, some to get that great Google juice.

So, here is how it goes. I am going to post up my presentation tonight. I will probably link to the presentations of Tris and Roland tomorrow with some insight on what they had to say. Every couple of days or so I will revisit the topics in my presentation one by one with more of what was said in my presentation verbally, as well as a ton of my notes that never made it quite as far as the actual presentation. I hope to be able to offer some useful solutions to individuals and businesses especially who want to start to blog and don’t quite know where to start.

If you have any special requests on topics, please feel free to email me or post a comment.

Preparing for IIMA

Related entries in Arieanna & Ianiv

So, I’ve spent the greater part of my afternoon and evening preparing for the upcoming IIMA blogging event where I will be speaking.

I have to say, taking on a topic as broad as “blogging as an effective marketing tool” has been a bit overwhelming. But great on the other hand too. I knew coming into it what I wanted to talk about it, but I’ve been all over the blogosphere beefing up my ideas and really digging down. It’s been a really great experience.

If there is one true rule out there it is that teaching someone else how to do something always teaches you something too. I feel quite empowered by what I’ve read. Looking forward to presenting.

You can see details about the event here: Blogaholics: Blogging for Dollars, The Shifting Sands of Power

I will be speaking on March 9 for the International Internet Marketing Association. The topic is “Blogging for Dollars, The Shifting Sands of Power”

Speakers include myself, Roland Tanglao, and Tris Hussey.

Enter the blogosphere. Yes, that is where blogs live. And it’s where opinions are spread far and wide, where search engines track, where researchers and journalists find juicy grist, and in general where very big things are happening.

The sheer volume of blogs (over four million at last count!) boggles the mind. Bottom line, if your company is poised for growth and leadership, people should be talking about you. Many of your competitors are taking the lead by writing and posting their own blogs — as you read this in fact.

In this workshop three panelists will give you their insights on how to use blogging as an accelerator to business. With practical encouragement and advice, you will leave empowered to blog for your business and enhance your profits!

If you are interested in going, you can sign up here.

Wednesday, March 9, 2005
UBC downtown campus, 800 Robson St. (C680)
5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Light refreshments will be served
Price: $35 Members, $50 Non-Members

I will be posting my notes after the event.
