The power of pictures
Related entries in Blogging Basics, Writing TipsI notice quite often that I scan blog posts quite quickly to pick up on one of two things: keywords in the title or pictures. One or the other has to catch my eye to stop my scroll down the page.
How important do you think pictures are to blog posts in general? Do we pass over potentially influential or interesting posts because of a lack of graphics or the lack of choice key phrases (two separate issues, granted).
I will look into the issue of both. My supposition is that both are important, but need to be used both consistently and well. I think that I am more strongly influenced by graphics, as I can process these faster. Can make assumptions at a more rapid pace.
What do you think?

Hi Arieanna - I agree, it’s important but needs to be done properly.
From my own surfing, I find imagery tends to pull in my focus. Unless you’re a writer who I already know and follow, I will quickly scan unless there’s something pretty to look at. That may seem shallow but I follow too many blogs to do otherwise.
As a blogger, with TurboBlogger it’s irrelevant, but with my personal blog, I keep forgetting to add anything! I get so focussed in writing the post and then pressing ‘publish’, it’s not until later that I go “Duh! I should have…”.
As Darren is saying at ProBlogger, it can definitely help grab their attention, but you still need to make the post flow.
Thanks for the post.

You can include pictures in your posts in such a way that the page is still readable if images are turned off or slow to load. So someone with a slow link wont be affected.
